A fearsome jaguar battled with a thrashing caiman in a terrifying conflict caught on digicam.

The dramatic photos have been captured within the Pantanal in Brazil, the biggest wetlands on this planet.

The massive cat had its jaws across the neck of the 8ft yacare caiman as they exchanged blows within the Cuiaba River.

The battle was over in minutes after the jaguar dragged the reptile to land by its jaws and devoured it. 

Photographer Leighton Lum, 32, stated: ‘This jaguar assault was over in minutes, all we noticed was a giant splash. 

‘From the time we bought there it had already made its first strike and had the caiman up by the neck. Their jaws are so robust.

‘The jaguar bit by the caimans thick pores and skin and snapped its neck in lower than a minute.

‘It then took one other two minutes to pull the carcass out of the river and up the financial institution out of sight from us.

‘It appeared as if the caiman was held helpless as soon as the jaguar bought ahold of its neck. 

‘It tried to roll out of it however was no match for this jaguar.’
