Aside the fast spreading new strain of the Coronavirus in the United Kingdom, the African Centre for Disease Control, (CDC) has announced that a new strain of the virus has been found in Nigeria.
The head of the Africa CDC said more investigation is needed to unravel more about the situation.
Similar alarms have been sounded in South Africa and the UK too. Reports indicate that the UK claims it’s cases might have originated from South Africa.
The new variants which have sprung up in the UK, South Africa and now Nigeria according to experts is more contagious.
The UK situation has seen numerous travel restrictions from almost all of Europe as the world heads into a holiday season.
The head of the Africa CDC John Nkengasong said the new strain found in Nigeria is separate from those found in South Africa and the UK. He said more analysis will be done on samples by the Africa CDC and the Nigeria CDC.
The Nigerian variant was identified in samples collected from two patients on August 3 and October 9 in Osun state.
