Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric is willing to take a huge pay cut to remain at the Bernabau according reports emerging from Spain.
Modric, 35 is in the final year of his contract at Real Madrid and will be allowed to talk to other clubs in January.
However, Marca has reported that the Ballon d’or winner is keen to see out his career with the Spanish giants having proven himself as one of the best ever midfielders the club has had.
This means Modric will be ready to take a pay cut as long as he will stay at Real Madrid beyond next summer.
The reports goes on to claim that Real Madrid are yet to discuss the veteran midfielder’s future as on most occasions the club are reluctant to hand veteran players new contracts.
Modric has already made a firm decision with his interest lying in retiring at Madrid but the decsion lies with the club’s top hierarchy.
Sergio Ramos and Lucas Vasquez are also in similar situations with their contracts set to expire next summer.
But the situation with Ramos looks quite different from Modric’s as he is a year younger and also the club captain.
Modric is already facing competition in midfield with Fede Valverde seen as his long term replacement.
Martin Odegaard has also returned from his loan spell who could provide Zinedine Zidane another option in midfield.
Modric played 31 La Liga games for Madrid last season scoring three and providing eight assists to help Real win the La Liga.
He has also played in all of Real Madrid’s games this season with the club leading the league table with 10 points.
