Arsenal have completed the signing of goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson from Ligue 1 side Dijon.
Runarsson will replace Emiliano Martinez who left to Aston Villa in a deal worth £17m and will deputise for first choice goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
The Iceland international joined the French club in July 2018 and last season he made 13 appearances for Dijon in all competitions.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper will wear the No.13 shirt at Arsenal which previously was worn by former goalkeeper Wojiech Sczezsny.
Speaking on Arsenal’s offical website Runarsson said: “I’m just extremely happy, extremely proud, its a big day for me and my family. I can’t wait to get started.
“It is one of the biggest clubs in the world. They’ve won the Premier League (top division) 13 times , the FA Cup 14 times, it’s a huge club and obviously playing in the Premier League as well, it is a win-win situation.
“I know it is going to be a lot of hard work but I am ready to do everything I can to get the most amount of minutes as possible.”
Arsenal technical director Edu said: “We are very pleased to welcome Alex to our squad. We have been monitoring him for sometime and from the analysis, he has strong attributes that we look for in a goalkeeper and as a person.”
“We want to create healthy competition for places and we look forward to seeing Alex bring further dept to the goalkeeping position,” Mikel Arteta added.
Arsenal also had their eye set on Brentford goalkeeper David Raya but the Championship side refused any deal.
