The Gunners accepted a £16 million bid from Villa that could rise up to £20m with add ons.
The Argentine who had two years on his contract at Arsenal impressed when he stepped in for Gunners No.1 Bernd Leno when he got injured after the season’s restart in June.
The 28-year-old kept 9 clean sheets in 23 appearances last season helping Arsenal to win the FA cup and was also in post during the Community Shield match against Liverpool which the Gunners also lifted the trophy.
Dean Smith was delighted at the arrival of the Argentine show-stopper: “We are really pleased with the signing of our new goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
“We know hown highly Arsenal rated him and we watched his outstanding performances last season in a trophy-winning top side.
“We moved for Emi when we saw the opportunity l, as it is rare to be able to buy a top class goalkeeper who hasn’t yet reached their peak age and who can therefore be a key player for our club for then long term.”
Martinez becomes Villa’s third major signing after the arrival of Ollie Watkins from Brentford and Matty Cash from Nottingham Forest.
Martinez could make his debut for the Midland club when they take on Sheffield United on Monday.
