Aston Villa agree £33m to sign Ollie Watkins from Brentford

The deal will make Ollie the Club’s record signing. The player trained with the Championship club on Tuesday but terms have since been agreed and he is expected to travel to complete his medicals within the week.

Villa Boss Dean Smith was in charge of Brentford when they signed Watkins from Exeter in 2017 and has since made the striker his top target after they lost to Fulham in the Championship play-off final.

Since Wesley had a serious knee injury at Burnley on New Year’s Day, Dean Smith has been in a hunt for a striker.

Personal terms have been agreed and the striker is expected to travel to the Midlands to complete his medicals

Tanzanian forward Mbwaana Samatta was signed from Genk for £8.5m in January but the striker only managed two goals for half a season that he was at Villa.

Watkins last season was one of the most impressive strikers outside the Premier League managing to score 26 goals in all competitions for the Bees and helped his team finish third in the Championship even though they couldn’t make to the Premier League after being beaten by Fulham in the final of the play-off.

Brentford signed Ollie Watkins for just £2m and his departure will represent a huge profit for the Club.
