Rakitic rejoins Sevilla from Barcelona

Seville have completed a £1.3m deal for old boy Ivan Rakitic after leaving for Barcelona in 2014.

With Barcelona planning a massive overhauling of most of their first team stars after they were overwhelmingly defeated 8-2 by Bayern Munich, Rakitic was earmarked to leave.

Rakitic now rejoins the club where he left six years ago for £18m on a four-year deal which could rise to £8m with bonuses.

In a statement Barcelona showed their heartfelt appreciation for his contributions during his six year stay at the Camp Nou and praised his achievements announcing a farewell ceremony for him this week.

“FC Barcelona publicly expresses its gratitude to Rakitic for his commitment and dedication and wishes him good luck and success in the future.

“Versatile, hardworking and with a good vision of the game, he ends his career as a Barca player with 310 games, in which he has made 40 assists and 36 goals.

“This Wednesday September 2, starting 11am, the farewell ceremony and subsequent telematic press conference for the player will take place.”

Sevilla announced the deal on Twitter posting: “@Ivan Rakitic returns home, he’s a #SevilleFC player once again! Welcome back, Ivan!”

The player also posted on his Twitter timeline showing appreciation to Fc Barcelona for everything they did for him during his stay at the Camp Nou.
