Leeds United Signs Rodrigo for a Club Record Transfer Fee of £35m


Newly promoted Premier League side Leeds United have smashed a club record fee of £35m to sign Valencia striker Rodrigo.

The Spanish striker has signed a-four-year deal with the Marcelo Beilsa’s side until June 2024.

Reports from Sportsmail claims the English side agreed a £26million deal with Valencia to sign the player on Tuesday which would increase further by £9m in add-ons.

Rodrigo had his medicals done on Wednesday following a conversation with Leeds director of football Victor Orta and owner Andrea Radrizzani who were in Valencia to finalise the deal.

Completing gis switch to the Premier League, Rodrigo was delighted and thanked the duo involved in his coming to Leeds.

He said: “I am really happy and  I am very excited to join the club in this important season for all of us after coming back to the Premier League.

“I want to thank all the fans on social media, the club, the president Andrea and Victor Orta for the effort.

“As soon as I spoke with Victor, I knew I wanted this challenge with Leeds.

“For me its an important new step in my career and I want to help the team to achieve the goals of the season,” Rodrigo added.

His delight in the move didn’t end just there but Rodrigo was full of praise for Leeds manager Marcelo Beilsa sighting that “he is one of the best coaches in football at the moment” and will be pleased to learn under his leadership.

Rodrigo was impressive for Valencia becoming a key player in the team

At Valencia, Rodrigo was a key player in the team netting 19 goals in the 2017/18 seaon, 15 in the 2018/19 campaign but just 7 last season as he battled with a knee injury.

He has 28 assists over the last three years at Valencia.
