Emerging reports from France claims Arsenal are set to sign Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes on a-five-year deal as the Brazilian defender is on the verge of sealing a switch to the Emirates.
The highly demanded Lille defender who has attracted interest from European clubs enjoyed a solid spell with Lille last season and Arsenal reportedly have agreed to sign the £22 million rated centre back this week.
The Telegraph reports that Gabriel will sign until 2025 after agreeing a deal with the Gunners.
The reports also claims Everton were among the clubs interested in signing the Brazilian defender but pulled out of the race with Napoli reportedly also agreeing a fee with Lille to sign the young defender.
But Gabriel is expected to turn down Napoli’s offer and sign for Arsenal after initial talks with Raul Sanhelli who departed Arsenal recently but Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu have taken over talks to complete the signing of the 22-year-old.
Mikel Arteta on the phase of rebuilding Arsenal looks to strengthen most importantly his defense after finishing eight in the Premier League.
Pablo Mari made his loan deal with Arsenal a permanent one and William Saliba has also returned from his loan spell with Saint-Etienne marking the availability of wide range defensive options for Mikel Arteta.
With the future of Sokratis and Callum Chambers still unknown, the addition of Gabriel Magalhaes will bolster Arsenals back line having already the experience of David Luiz and Shkodran Mustafi.
Reports coming from France claims the deal is just ‘few hours’ from completion and Gabriel will move to the Emirates soon.
