Ghana Black Stars head coach C.K Akonor has urged Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey to stay put and snub interest from the Gunners.
Arsenal over the summer have been heavily linked with the 27-year-old Ghanaian midfielder with rumours claiming the North London club wanted a swap deal but Atletico Madrid rejected their offer.
But Mikel Arteta’s side haven’t given up on their pursuit for Partey as Arsenal are looking forward to building a strong midfield to challenge for the Premier League next season.
Akonor according to Joy Sports told Starr FM: “Honestly, I wouldn’t want him to move to Arsenal because with Atletico, he will always play Champions League football. His position is guaranteed and he will always play.”
“With Arsenal, I’m not too sure,” Akonnor said before remarking, “Arsenal fans will kill me [for saying he should not join the gunners].”
“I hope that and I’m sure money issues will come in, but I hope that whatever he asks for, Atletico will be able to pay,”
Thomas Partey has been an integral member of Atletico Madrid’s midfield since breaking into the first team im 2015 sealing his role as a holding midfielder
Diego Simeone is keen on keeping the Ghanaian midfielder at the Estadio Metropolitano with two years stlll left on his current contract.
Atletico Madrid will face RB Leipzig in the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League on Thursday night and Thomas Partey is expected to feature.
