Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has completed a £20m switch from Southampton to the North London side on a five-year-deal.
The 25-year-old Denmark international has become Jose Mourinho’s first signing of the summer. The news was confirmed on Tottenham’s official website.
Hojbjerg will wear the No.5 shirt at Tottenham Hotspur after he successfully passed his medical on their training grounds on Monday.
With the departure of Jan Vertonghen, the No.5 shirt was vacant and after completing his move, Hojbjerg told Tottenham’s offical website: ‘What was very important to me is I wanted to play in a club where I could see myself for many years. Tottenham was the one. I’m very proud, very happy, excited.
‘I think there’s a fantastic future ahead for the Club and I wanted so much to be a part of that.’
As Jose seeks to build a team of his own after taking over from Pochettino, Hojbjerg’s Premier League experience would be a great asset for the team.
He spent four years at Southampton making over 100 Premier League appearances.
The Denmark international started his playing career at Bayern Munich making 25 appearances for the club before enjoying loans spells at Augsburg and Schalke.
Everton was interested in signing the former Saints captain but he preferred a move to the North London club instead.
