Atletico Madrid have confirmed that two of their senior players have tested positive for Coronavirus after recent tests were conducted.
Atletico will face RB Leipzig in the Champions League to play the quarter-final phase of the tournament on Thursday.
The club on Saturday released an offical statement confirming that two of their players have contracted Coronavirus and that all necessary health and footballing bodies have been notified as a result.
Their statement read: Among the results known today, two positives have appeared, which are isolated in their respective homes, and which were immediately communicated to the Spanish and Portuguese health authorities, UEFA, the Royal Spanish Football Federation, the Portuguese Federation and the Higher Sports Council.’
The club has also confirmed that they will adhere to all necessary guidance by UEFA to clubs in the events of their players contracting the Coronavirus.
This means the entire playing squad and club staff would have to be tested on daily basis before they will be able to travel.
As a result, the club also confirmed their training regime will be modified in order to avoid any possible spread.
The club however have not identified the players who tested positive but have been isolated from the squad and will not join the squad as they travel on Monday to Portugal to prepare for their Champions League clash against Leipzig.
A total of 93 people underwent the last range of tests at their training grounds the club also confirmed.
