Chelsea according to reports have made a breakthrough with contract talks and are close to agreeing a new deal with Willian.
The 31-year-old Brazilian was due to depart the Stamford Bridge with Chelsea not settled with his demand for a three year extension while Chelsea reportedly only offered two years.
Despite numerous offers coming from clubs for the attacker, reports claims Chelsea have had a breakthrough with talks over a new contract for the Brazilian forward.
Freak Lampard was keen to keep the attacker at Stamford Bridge despite the stand off and talks over a new contract now seems to edge closer than before.
Willian’s agent Kia Joorabchian is very close to Arsenal’s top hierarchy and the news will come as a blow to Arsenal who for the past few weeks reportedly have been courting the Brazilian.
Manchester United, Barcelona and David Beckham’s Inter Miami were also reportedly keeping an eye on Willian’s situation waiting for his availability.
Reports widely claims the winger has not been able to secure the deal he has been hoping for over the last seven months.
But he however signed a short deal with the Blues till the end of the season because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Willian has admitted that despite hearing that alot of clubs out there want him, he wishes to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge for a foreseeable future.
‘There are rumours about several teams that may be interested,’ he told De Sola YouTube channel.
‘For the time being, I have had no concrete proposal. But rumours always arise. I’m waiting. My agent hasn’t given me any news yet. I’m waiting for his call.
‘Chelsea only offer me two years and I asked for three. My goal in the next contract is to sign for three years. So I haven’t had a deal with Chelsea yet.
‘This is what I asked the club for, three years of contract. If you give me that, I’ll get the pen and sign the contract tomorrow.’
Since joining Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk for £32m, Willian has made 339 appearances for the West London club scoring 63 goals.
