The Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission in Nigeria collapsed during a hearing at the House of Representatives which was been broadcasted on live TV earlier today.
Professor Kemebradikumo Pondei fainted while he was been grilled in connection with alleged financial mismanagement at his outfit. The commission has allegedly mismanaged 81.5 Billion Naira.
The NDCC in a statement, said its chairman was sick for the past two weeks but refused medical advice not to attend the House of Representatives Committee hearing which was scheduled for today.
“The Commission wishes to disclose that Prof Pondei has been ill for the past two weeks. This morning, his condition deteriorated, and his doctors advised against attending the hearing.
“However, he ignored his doctors’ advice because of the realisation that his traducers will use his absence at the hearing to soil his name and reputation. He thought he could make it through the hearing and take care of his health later.
Prof. Pondei fell forward in the heat of the interrogation. The hearing came to an abrupt end as people surrounded him, started fanning him to bring him back to live. One of the men in suit who is believed to his aide was seen opening his mouth to prevent him from choking.
He was taken out of the hall shortly afterwards hanging on the shoulders of two men.
