“Greenwood is Better than Rashford,” According to Former Manchester United Striker Dwight Yorke


Former Manchester United striker has made a claim that United teenage sensation Mason Greenwood is better than Marcus Rashford and a defender’s nightmare.

The 18-year-old has been outstanding since the return of football in June netting four times in seven games helping United edge closer to the top four.

The young striker has sixteen goals to his name in all competitions this season cementing a place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first team.

Yorke believes youngster has overtaken Rashford as United’s main man despite his 22 goals and 11 assists contribution to United’s season.

Yorke further says the youngster is a defender’s nightmare

He told Apollo Tyres: ‘He is better than Rashford, looking at his record now. You got to understand though he is still 18, at a development stage. Having Ole there, he would guide him along the way.’

‘Mason is a defender’s nightmare. If you look at us in the last two to three years, we have been passing sideways, now these guys are driving teams back into their own area. He is a fantastic talent.’

Dwight Yorke played for Manchester United between 1998-2002 scoring 65 in 147 appearances. Hwee highlighted United’s history of giving youngsters a chance and suggested the situation would have  been different for Greenwood under a different managers.

The former United striker insists Greenwood wouldn’t have gotten games under different managers like Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal

‘He [Greenwood] is getting all the praise right now because he is certainly hot at the moment with what he is doing. The trend at United is that the young players have always been getting chances.

‘Under LVG [Louis van Gaal] and [Jose] Mourinho, they have not got their chances. Ole has come in and recognised that part of Man Utd. Mason, under Jose, probably would not have got a game.’
