A rising star shooter and police officer at the Los Angeles Police Department has been sued by the 14-year-old daughter of a man she shot to death at an accident scene.
The 38-year-old David Hernandez was shot dead in April by 23-year-old LAPD police officer Toni McBride in downtown LA.
Hernandez was involved in a multiple car accident after which he got out of his vehicle. He appeared to be holding an object that looked like a knife and started walking towards Toni McBride.
Toni shot Hernandez after the latter refused to listen to warnings asking him to stand still. She fired four times and two more times after the man fell to the ground because he was still holding the object.
The devastated daughter of David Hernandez is now suing Toni who is also known as “Top Shot” due to her shooting prowess for shooting his father.
Hernandez’s lawyers said the shooting was unjustified and that Toni McBride had a “reckless violent and homicidal” intent.
While some police experts believe McBride’s use of force was justified, Hernandez’s lawyer accused her of being a “gunslinger”.
The Hernandez family said the use of force by the cops is something the black and latino community has been battling with for decades.
Toni McBride has been featured in magazines and videos of her practising in gun ranges alongside Hollywood stars including Keanu Reeves. Some of the videos can be seen on her social media pages.
